LVDS has become pervasive among high-speed differential signaling technologies. It offers an attractive combination of low power and EMI, a wide common mode allowing interface with most other differential technologies and the ability to operate in the GHz region with low jitter and signal conditioning enabling excellent cable and backplane reach. The latest LVDS devices, produced in NSC’s biCMOS SiGe process, are capable of speeds in excess of 3 Gbps with jitter in the single digits of picoseconds with pre-emphasis and equalization for extended reach on cables and backplanes.
