For applications that use less battery cells, the MIC4604 can be used without any boost circuit as long as the battery voltage is 5.5V or greater. Using MIC4604 in a 7.2V (2 Li-Ion batteries) will allow a longer run time as the application will operate until the undervoltage lockout threshold is reached below 4.9V.
