Programmable Gate Drive, VDD sets the Gate to Source voltage from wide range of 5.5V to 16V to allow the designer to get the best system efficiency required in the application by allowing the user to choose the desired RDS(ON) of MOSFET. The designer can use a higher Gate source voltage such an 10V and get a RDS(ON) of 4 mΩ. If the designer is directly powering from a 2 x Li-ion battery (3.6V x 2 = 7.2V) , the designer can could tolerate a higher RDS(ON) of 4.7 mΩ but run directly from a battery eliminating the need for boost circuit.
