If a Remote Frame is received, the controller checks the remote ID against the transmit mailboxes. If a match is found, the controller automatically sends a message with the ID and data contained in that mailbox. This decreases the load on the host microcontroller because the software does not have to handle Remote messages. However, if the mailbox has not been updated in a long time, the information sent to the network will be old. This design issue has to be considered when the application software is created. If a mailbox overrun occurs, a FullCAN controller will keep the newest message. An older message with the same ID will be lost. (Note that this is the opposite of what a BasicCAN controller does.)
