Let’s begin by briefly reviewing what a Controller Area Network, or CAN, is and why it’s an important design solution. It is a two-wire (twisted-pair), bidirectional serial-bus communication method that allows electronic subsystems to be linked together and interact in a network. The network may have many nodes, covering distances up to hundreds of meters. CAN is noted for its high integrity for real-time applications. It performs well in noisy environments because CAN hardware incorporates features designed to ensure reliable communication.
