The R8C/Lx Series, can be thought of as the R8C/3x series with an LCD controller. The key message here is that the Lx is yet another extension within the same R8C Family. The lowest end device within this Series, the R8C/L35 group, come in a 52-pin package and support up to 24 segments and 4 common lines for a maximum of 96 LCD segments. To enable users to design adequate system control with advanced LCD interfaces, Renesas decided to offer ample flash memory. The first set of Lx devices shown here offer flash sizes ranging from 48K to 128KB. The largest versions incorporate 10KB of SRAM, which provides maximum design flexibility uncommon in this class of devices. The next group is the R8C/L36. These devices support up to 224 LCD segments with 28 x 8 configuration. Moving up in functionality is the R8C/L38 group which come in 80-pin packages, can drive up to 352 LCD segments, and add additional analog inputs. At the very top is the L3A group of devices. These devices can drive an overwhelming 416 segments with there 52x8 configuration. These are available in 100-pin packages and incorporate 20 A/D inputs. Other functions available in these devices include up to four 16-bit timers, three 8-bit timers, and multiple async/sync, I²C and SPI interfaces. Finally, all R8C/Lx devices shown here offer Data Flash as an option.
