Now, the training module will explore what Renesas offers to reduce development time even further and allow a faster time-to-market. As part of the R8C support infrastructure, an evaluation platform called SubAtomic Particle (or SPB) is available. For those with little or no experience with R8C MCUs, this is the recommended first step in the evaluation process. The SPB has been designed for evaluation at an architecture level. In case of the R8C, the SPB can be used to evaluate most aspects of this MCU family because of its strong peripheral compatibility. The advanced software environment includes an interactive graphical user interface for automatic verification of software and hardware operation. The platform also incorporates on-board sound playback capability for voice-aided instructions and application use. In addition, the interface provides a built-in Activity Center used for easy navigation through the different resources shipped with the kit or available on-line. As with all evaluation tools provided by Renesas, the SPB also includes a free full-featured software suite for 64KB maximum code size. This is comprised of the High-Performance Embedded Workshop (Renesas HEW IDE for all MCUs and MPUs) and a C compiler.
