LTC3890-Slide2

Among the many step-down DC/DC switching regulator controllers, the LTC3890/-1 stand alone because of its unique feature set. This device is a high input voltage (60V), low quiescent current dual output synchronous step-down DC/DC controller that is ideal for high step-down ratio applications. Many high input voltage step-down DC/DC converter designs use a transformer-based topology to produce a low output voltage. Others use an intermediate bus converter requiring an additional power stage. The LTC3890/-1 can simplify a high step-down ratio power supply by eliminating the need for a separate bus converter stage. Battery powered systems that require an “Always-On” power bus while the rest of the system is turned off must conserve battery energy. This state is commonly referred to as sleep, standby or idle mode and requires these systems to have a low quiescent current to maximize the battery run-time. The need for low quiescent current is especially important in automotive and truck applications that can have several electrical circuits, sophisticated telematics, navigation systems, remote keyless entry and multiple always-on bus lines.
