Delta’s 1” x 1” DC/DC converters use planar transformer with winding integrated into PWB. The heat can be easily conducted through its metal case and pins. Traditional design uses transformers with winding surrounded by bobbin, tape, and core. It is difficult for heat to be conducted outside since the transformer is floated on the PCB.
