Illustrated here are some of the main challenges associated with LCD design and how NXP addresses these problems. First, in the LCD market, most LCD MCUs can only be operated in the 4 backplane mode. In other words, to drive 192 segments, the device needs to use 52 LCD pins (4 Backplanes and 48 Front planes). NXP offers an 8 backplane mode solution which requires only 32 LCD pins. Additionally, NXP’s LCD MCU can be operated in 1x, 2x, 4x, up to 8x mode.
