The “Reverse Geometry” Capacitor is ideal for high speed applications such as a CPU. In the chip set application, it is most beneficial to use a Low ESL capacitor that has superior high frequency characteristics. Because the power supply noise generated by the high speed motion of the CPU becomes stronger at high frequencies, the behavior of a capacitor functioning at high frequencies is mostly controlled by the ESL levels in that capacitor. Therefore, to optimize functionality, the ESL of the capacitor used in these applications must be minimized.
