The most common industry-standard footprint for 1 and 2 W SMD converters is characterized by that of the NTE series, as shown on this slide. Both the 1 W and 2 W MTU series utilize a package that occupies half the board area of the other industry standard shared by a number of other suppliers that offer solutions, with a footprint nearly five times that of the MTU that are otherwise comparable with the MTU2. The most characteristic feature of the MTU package is its cubical shape with virtually equal length, width, and height dimensions of just over 8 mm. This yields a footprint of about 0.69 square centimeter, less than half that of otherwise comparable competitive products occupying 1.4 to 3.2 square centimeters of board area.
