These two illustrations show a pictorial view of how the “D” and “DQ” diodes are built. The main difference between the two is that the “DQ” diode has what is called “step epi”. This allows a fast, but also a soft recovery, so oscillations are reduced at turnoff resulting in lower EMI levels.
