The MAX98357 supports 8-channel TDM data, which allows eight different speaker signals to be supplied via one TDM line. In a system driven by I²S lines, every two speakers would need a unique I²S bundle of lines to drive audio. This creates more EMI and complicates the routing scheme. With an 8-channel TDM, one line can supply all eight speakers, greatly simplifying routing and reducing EMI.
