In the figure shown here, each row is color coded to represent a separate layer in the OSI model for a TCP/IP stack. The top 2 rows in the diagram are a single layer (the Application Layer). As can be seen, the real-time communication is capable of using a range of simple communication applications (e.g. USB to Ethernet) all the way up to gateway applications.
