It is essential to remove the covering before terminating the cable to the IDC connectors. With the foil on the contacts, it will short across the aluminum layer in the foil covering. The process is set out in the Cable Preparation Instructions document. The document will be updated as the 3M lab becomes aware of different tooling options.
