The NPIC6C596A is an integration of a shift register and external drivers. This integration allows significant BOM reduction as the device can drive the LEDs directly. NPIC6C devices have 33 V tolerant open-drain outputs. Each output is designed to sink 100 mA and there is no ground current limit. All outputs can actively sink 100 mA at the same time. Outputs include current limiting circuitry, which limits the maximum current each can sink. They also include thermal protection.
