Infineon’s CoolSET family integrates a high voltage CoolMOS MOSFET and a PWM flyback controller in a single package for high-efficiency off-line power supplies without a heatsink for set-top boxes, monitors, and auxiliary supplies in white goods. CoolSET devices include a 700 V or 800 avalanche rugged CoolMOS P7 device and a controller that implements a novel quasi-resonant switching scheme that minimizes the spread of switching frequency, which allows for higher switching frequencies, smaller magnetics, and a lower BOM cost. CoolSET also implements digital frequency reduction to keep EMI low and efficiency high even under lighter loads and includes multiple protection functions.
