MPS MCQ1805 series linear Hall effect current sensors are designed for automotive applications, capable of sensing both AC and DC currents. They feature a differential Hall array, which helps eliminate the influence of stray magnetic fields.
A low-resistance primary conductor routes the current close to the IC, where high-precision Hall effect sensors are integrated. The current produces a magnetic field detected at two distinct points by the Hall transducers. The difference in the magnetic field at these locations is converted into a voltage signal that accurately reflects the applied current. A spinning current technique is employed to maintain a low and stable offset.
Galvanic isolation between the primary conductor path and the sensor pins enables the MCQ1805 to serve as a replacement for optoisolators and other isolation solutions. The device offers fast overcurrent detection (OCD), enabling real-time monitoring and response to overcurrent (OC) conditions. Requiring only a few standard, easily sourced external components, the MCQ1805 comes in a compact SOIC-8 package, making it ideal for use in applications with limited board space.
