CMX7158 Full-Duplex Audio Scrambler

CML Micro’s CMX7158 scrambler IC discourages digital eavesdropping

Image of CML Micro’s CMX7158 Full Duplex Audio ScramblerCML Micro’s CMX7158 is a low power, full-duplex, frequency inversion voice scrambler IC. The scrambled speech is unintelligible to the casual listener, but the recovered audio is very clear. This type of encryption is suitable for many individual, business, and commercial applications to discourage eavesdropping from co-channel users or RF scanners.

The device features flexible analog interfaces that allow the CMX7158 to be inserted into an existing voice path that the device is suitable for use in new designs, integration into existing designs, or as a standalone accessory. Full duplex operation makes it a suitable device for use in wired audio systems as well as mobile and hand portable cellular, Bluetooth®, PMR, or LMR radio systems.

The CMX7158 features a programmable inversion frequency split point and has fully independent transmit and receive voice channels, each of which has digital gain control. Three operating modes allow for scrambled or clear voice transmission with a higher bandwidth bypass mode also being supported.
